We settled into our first days surrounded by space above us. High ceilings have always been my favourite element of any room. It almost doesn’t matter what the decor is when the ceiling is quadruple the height of a person. We walked and began talks about the life we wanted to make from this point on and yet those ceilings also gave us an ability to say nothing in each others’ presence. We left dishes in the sink overnight, sang songs to our baby before bed and shared cups of tea. For the first time in a while life was tiny and beautiful and still. We weren’t home, but we were home.
